Two items: a partly-printed Confederate States requisition form, August 4, 1863, in which Dr. L. Robinson orders three coffins from Captain William Bacon at the cost of eight dollars each, one of which is dated July 4; and a handwritten manuscript, one no date but circa 1862, copying a New York Times article entitled, “Death of Lieut. Harry B. Hidden, of the Lincoln Cavalry,” in part: “He fell in with the pickets of the enemy, a score in number, and drove them in till finally he was suddenly surrounded by a hundred and fifty of the enemy. The alternative was to cut his way out, or surrender at discretion. ‘Will you follow me?’ said the unshrinking officer. ‘To the death!’ was the unanimous reply; and through the rebel ranks they made their way…After this daring action…one of the skulking assassins who had laid down his arms, seized his musket and shot the retiring officer dead on the spot.” In overall very good to fine condition.
