Allen’s personally-owned beige necktie featuring an ornate blue design, which, when turned sideways, spells out his name. Includes a transmittal letter from his secretary, one page, 4.5 x 6, personal letterhead, January 27, 1956, in full: “Steve asked me to send the enclosed along to you…for your ‘Necktie Party.’” In overall fine condition. Originally from the collection of a DJ named Chuck Thompson, who in 1956 started asking celebrities for their ties—his quest became nationally know and featured a mention in TV Guide. This particular tie was supposed to have been worn by Allen on The Tonight Show. As that was the gist of Thompson’s quest, he acquired several other television screen-worn ties including Andy Devine’s 'Jingles' tie from The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok. Accompanied by a photocopy of the TV Guide article picturing Thompson holding the here-offered Steve Allen tie. RR Auction COA.
