Burnside orders the Army to display their “flags at half mast, on Monday, the 15th day of April, out of respect to the memory of Abraham Lincoln”

Ink signature, “Truly yours—A. E. Burnside, Maj. Genl.,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2 lightly-lined slip bearing pencil collector’s notations to bottom. Also includes an original printed bulletin of Burnside’s General Orders No. 18, issued on April 2, 1872, 5.25 x 8.25, in full: “It is recommended to Posts and members of the Grand Army, that they display their flags at half mast, on Monday, the 15th day of April, out of respect to the memory of Abraham Lincoln.” Some staining to edges of the General Orders sheet, otherwise fine condition.
