Description

“I ventured to send the afghan (flag design) which was presented to Gen’l U. S. Grant when he was President”

Socialite, philanthropist, and wife of Frederick Dent Grant (1854–1930). Two ALSs on black bordered 5.25 x 6.75 adjoining sheets, totaling 22 pages. One letter, in part: “I trust you will pardon my venturing to send, to ‘U. S. Grant Post 327’—the large portrait of General U. S. Grant, which my husband valued & thought excellent as well, who would have liked your Post to have the photograph of him, General Frederick D. Grant, who was devoted to you all! I hope, it will also not be taken amiss, that I ventured to send the afghan (flag design) which was presented to Gen’l U. S. Grant when he was President, & the humidor for cigars, which belonged to my husband Gen’l F. D. Grant, which I am hoping may be used.” In overall fine condition. RR Auction COA.
