Esteemed American painter (1917–2009) best known for his distinctively realist scenes of New England and his native Pennsylvania. Signed book: Andrew Wyeth. First edition, first printing. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1968. Hardcover with dust jacket, 17.5 x 13, 174 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page in black ink, “To Leonard Lyons, I have enjoyed reading what you take in—keep it up—kindest regards, Andrew Wyeth. The writing is good.” Near the bottom of the page, Wyeth adds an intricate sketch of a hand holding a feather quill and writing on a large parchment. Autographic condition is fine, with a light diagonal bend to upper left. Book condition: VG+/G+. Tan and brown cloth-covered boards; light soiling to exterior; discoloration along edges; large, light stain to front along fore-edge and lower corner (approx. 3.5 x 7). Dust jacket has large chips/tears and creases; several creases down spine; two noticeable waterstains (one to front, corresponding with stain on front board, and one approx. 1.25 x 2.5 to rear); light soiling. An incredible rarity, in over 30 years, this is the first Wyeth sketch we have ever offered. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
