Description

One-of-a-kind planter featuring a Lennon self-portrait, drawn in 1972

Unique 14-inch tall off-white planter, 14.5-inch diameter, signed and inscribed on the side in black felt tip, “Love to Al, John & Yoko, ’72 May,” along with one of Lennon’s great self-portrait doodles of him and Yoko. Below, Lennon has added a somewhat lion-like caricature, possibly of the original recipient. Scattered marks and soiling, remnants of potting soil to the inside, and some brushing to the sketch and signature, otherwise fine condition. A Sotheby’s label is also affixed to the top. Certainly one of the most atypical items we have offered from Lennon, dating to shortly after he released Imagine. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
