ALS, one page, 5.75 x 9, National Woman Suffrage Association letterhead, July 1, 1889. Letter to “Mr. Buttre.” In full: “Will you please make 1,000 prints of Lucretia Mott—and send to Rufus H. Darby…Also 200 prints of Mrs. Marilla Ricker…send the bills for each—to me—here—Rochester—N. Y.” A few pencil office notations added to the margins, indicating shipping dates of the requested prints. In very good condition, with light scattered creases, staining to the upper left, a repaired tear to the right border affecting some writing, and a couple tears and chips to the borders. Both Mott and Ricker were women’s rights activists, and Rufus H. Darby a Washington, D.C. publisher who had published a pamphlet by Clara Barton and a report by the National Woman Suffrage Association. The prints Anthony requests were likely destined for publications—the 1888 Report of the International Council of Women included an impressive engraving of Mott as a frontispiece. RR Auction COA.
