Description

Dwight D. Eisenhower

TLS as president signed “D. E.,” one page, 7 x 10.5, White House letterhead, April 16, 1955. Letter to Brig. Gen. Arthur S. Nevins, who was caring for Eisenhower’s Gettysburg farm. In full: “A week ago I had a conversation with Charlie Tompkins and he said it might be a good thing to have lightning rods on the barn. I hope it is not too late so that you may notify the man who is going to put the bird repellant on the ridge. I just had a letter from someone who wants to give us a young Berkshire sow. He swears that they are by far the best hog in America. Are you interested in another one? I think that possibly you may feel that two are plenty. I am sending this letter to your temporary address out west (and a copy to Gettysburg) in the hope that in this way I minimize the error I made in not telling you earlier about the lightning rods. P. S. If you want to accept the young female English setter on my behalf, by all means do so.” In fine condition, with mild scattered creases and ink notation to bottom. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
