Description

Mamie Doud Eisenhower

TLS, two pages, 6.25 x 9, personal letterhead, September 11, 1970. Letter discussing various travels and family matters. In part: “From your note I gathered you were leading a quiet life and wherever I go it is never quiet…Someone told me they were tearing down the Jackson School where I went to kindergarten and where I came, as you remember, on their seventy-fifth anniversary. I am sorry about this but anything over fifty years old in this country seems to be torn down for new construction…I stopped and saw the Hoover Library and it was very interesting for I did know the Hoovers well and also the son, Herbert Hoover, Jr., who died very suddenly out on the desert last year so it meant more to me than the average person.” Eisenhower also added a postscript in her hand: “Talked to Mike [her sister] and all was well with her.” In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
