Original, and most likely one-of-a-kind museum or contractor’s 1/4 scale precision model vintage 1961 Mercury-Redstone Space Capsule. Capsule measures approximately 38″ long with a 23″ diameter base (steel heat shield). Visible through the two windows in the front of the capsule is a Mercury astronaut in his full spacesuit, his hands on the controls, with a large instrument panel including a lighted gyroscope directly in front of him. When model is plugged in, the interior of the cabin is fully illuminated. This very heavy steel & fiberglass capsule stands on a chrome stand with a fiberglass & steel reinforced ‘tear drop’ shaped base measuring approx. 50" long, with a small affixed plaque which reads, "Mercury-Redstone Capsule 1961.” In very good condition, with scattered chipping to paint, flag decal partially peeling, some scattered small areas of light pitting, and electrical plug missing the grounding pin. This is an extremely rare and desirable find. Models of this size and caliber are almost never available for private ownership, as they are usually only exhibited in Air & Space museums. Please note: due to the size and quantity of the item, additional shipping costs will be necessary and are the responsibility of the winning bidder. RRAuction COA.
