Description

“I am sure that, till we throw somebody to the wolves, confidence & money will never return”

ALS signed “E. Wharton,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 6, personal letterhead, February 8. Letter to Mrs. Updyke. In full: “I am very glad to hear that you like the last pages of my book, & if you ever try the first I hope they will not counteract the good impression I have been so fortunate as to produce. It was kind of you to write, for I know how busy you have been of late on behalf of the S.P.C.A.—I hope something definite will happen there soon, for I am sure that, till we throw somebody to the wolves, confidence & money will never return to the Society.” In fine condition. Wharton’s letters are decidedly scarce (this is only the fourth we have ever had), and its pointed content makes it all the more desirable. RRAuction COA.
