Marvelous vintage matte-finish 7 x 9 Underwood and Underwood portrait of Roosevelt, clad in a three-piece suit and his riding boots, sitting in his yard at Sagamore Hill, signed and inscribed at the upper left border in fountain pen “Good luck to the explorers and to all the Cathcart family (they must be a very nice family, judging from the letter signed ‘Charlotte Cathcart’), from Theodore Roosevelt, June 17th, 1917.” A notation on the reverse confirms “This photograph was taken on the lawn in front of T.R.’s home.” In fine condition with trimmed edges and silvering to the darker portions. An outstanding portrait of Roosevelt in his post-presidency, and only the second time we have ever offered this unusual pose. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
