Gallagher of the USS Saratoga, and reads, in part: "To all sailors wherever ye may be, and to all Mermaids, Whales, Sea Serpents, Porpoises, Sharks, Dolphins, Eels, Skates, Suckers, Crabs, Lobsters and all other Living Things of the Sea, Greetings. Know ye that on this 20th day of May, 1936 in Latitude 0000 and Longitude 81° 5' there appeared within Our Royal Domain the U. S. S. Saratoga bound South for the Equator in Fleet Problem 17 …Be it remembered…Charles D. Gallagher…having been found worthy to be numbered as one of our Trusty Shellbacks has been duly initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of Deep." Signed by "Davey Jones" and "Neptunus Rex" in type and signed in the lower border in fountain pen by Halsey and Frederick C. Sherman. In good condition, with overall creasing and wrinkling, scattered small edge tears, and scattered soiling, a few small areas of paper loss, and chipping to edges.
