Confederate military officer and politician (1818–1902) who replaced J. E. B. Stuart as Lee's Chief of Cavalry following Stuart's death on the battlefield. Hampton later served as governor and senator from South Carolina. Fountain pen signature, "Wade Hampton, So. Cal," on a light pink 6.75 x 4.5 album page, with a biographical caption affixed to bottom. In fine condition, with some light rippling and show-through from caption affixed on reverse.
