TLS as president signed "Wm. H. Taft," one page, 8 x 10.5, June 10, 1912. Taft appoints General Enoch H. Crowder at the War Department as a member of the American Preparatory Committee. In part: "I hereby appoint you…to represent the United States upon the International Preparatory Committee for the Third Hague Conference…Each member of the Committee will learn more particularly of the work expected of him by consulting the Secretary of State's letter to me, dated April 15th, 1912." In very good condition, with a horizontal fold through his name, several areas of old tape and tape residue, areas of soiling, and an even rectangular block of toning over his signature.
