TLS as president signed "Wm. H. Taft," one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, . Letter to a member of the Minneapolis Journal. In part: "Senator Washburn and I are old friends, and it would gratify me much to make the appointment. But the truth is, I fear that Senator Washburn is not strong enough to meet the exigencies of the place, which, during the next four years, are likely to be more than they have ever been heretofore. Still, I shall take the matter up with Secretary Knox …" In very good condition, with mirroring of text from folding, a few ripples and wrinkles, and a slightly fuzzy appearance to signature.
