Description

LBJ thanks the US Army Band on the occasion of his 64th birthday

TLS signed “L.B.J.,” one page, 7 x 9, personal letterhead, September 13, 1972. Johnson writes Colonel Samuel Loboda, leader and commanding officer of the US Army Band at Fort Myer, Virginia. In part: “Thanks to you and your men for finding such a wonderful way to say ‘Happy Birthday.’ The inspired selection of recordings will add to our pleasure for years to come…and stir warm memories from years past. Your music was so much a part of those White House days that just the sound of it again brings much of that time crowding back. It brings us as well renewed appreciation for the fine talents of The United States Army Band and The United States Army Chorus.” Light creasing and a few stains, file punch holes at the top border, and staple holes at the left side and upper left corner, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. A sentimental message from the former president to the band that led his inaugural parade. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
