Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 7.5 x 7.25, December 22, 1856. President Pierce orders the Secretary of State to “affix the Seal of the United States to the pardon granted to William H. Martin.” Archivally double matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Pierce and a name plaque to an overall size of 21.5 x 16.5. Expected folds, one directly under signature, thin ink mark through a single letter of signature, a bit of light toning and creasing, and a small tape repair to lower right, otherwise fine condition.
