Description

Ike signs during his brief tenure as president of Columbia University

Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of the Eisenhowers standing in front of Columbia University, signed in black felt tip,”Dwight D. Eisenhower” and “Mamie Doud Eisenhower.” Inscribed by Ike, “For Mrs. A. T. Smith—from her old friends.” Matted to an overall size of 12 x 14. In very good condition, with rippling, scattered soiling, and the inscription light with the surface beneath it also lighter and discolored from an attempt to remove the writing. Consignor notes that the item had a 1948 newspaper clipping beneath the original frame, supporting the belief the pose was taken and signed that same year, possibly during the four-month period Ike served as president of Columbia University. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
