In part: “I have looked into the matter of your husband’s enlistment and found that he should not have been assigned to duty outside the United States. Through an administrative error, he was sent overseas…I have sent cable instructions to the European Theater directing that your husband be returned to this country for permanent assignment. I am truly sorry that you have been caused so much anxiety.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
