King of France and Navarre (born 1755) from 1815 (save a brief interruption in that year while fleeing Napoleon during the Hundred Days) until his death in 1824. Louis himself claimed that his reign dated from the death of his nephew, the Dauphin Louis XVII, in 1795. Partly-printed DS, in French, one page, 16 x 12, August 17, 1822. King Louis XVIII awards Captain Francois Manson a letter of chivalry as part of the Royal Order of Saint-Louis. Signed at the conclusion in black ink, “Louis.” Some light skipping to signature, intersecting folds, punch holes to lower left, light soiling and creasing, and a couple small notations to top left, otherwise very good condition. The white seal is crisp and intact, and the signature is mostly unaffected by the flaws. RRAuction COA.
