Blackfoot chief (1872–1934) best known for the durable though still-controversial claim that he served as one of models for sculptor James Earle Fraser in creating the composite Native American portrait on the “Buffalo” nickel. Scarce vintage 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photo of the chief, signed in black ink with his three-character pictogram of two rifles and a horned calf. Notation in the lower border in another hand reads “Two Guns White Calf, Glacier Park Mont. Aug. 1928.” In fine condition with moderate contrast to signature and a central horizontal line of silvering, as well as light silvering to dark background. RRAuction COA.
