Distinguished author (1811–1896) whose epochal 1852 novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the issue of slavery to the fore of American consciousness and became one of the classics of 19th-century literature. In full: “Not one throb of anguish/Not one tear of the oppressed/Is forgotten by the Man of/Sorrows the Lord of Glory./In his patient generous bosom/he bears the anguish of a world.” Light scattered toning and soiling, horizontal fold, and a few small stains (lightly touching first letter of signature and a few words of text), otherwise fine condition.
