ALS signed “Tennyson,” one page trimmed in size to 4.25 x 6.25, blind-embossed personal letterhead, March 20, 1876. Tennyson writes to Messrs. Williams & Norgate. In full: “Baron Tauchnitz has published my Queen Mary at Leipzig & I have asked him to send me six copies. He says that I am ‘to send the necessary authorization for the customhouse’ to you & I suppose this note will be authorization sufficient….” Though it opened to an enthusiastic audience (comprised largely of the author’s friends), Tennyson’s 1875 play Queen Mary was not a success and closed after 23 performances. Trimming as noted and a touch of mild soiling, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
