Neoclassical French painter (1780–1867) best known for his portraits, including his famous image of Napoleon on his throne and the iconic nude La grande odalisque. ALS in French, signed “Ingres,” one page, 5.25 x 8, no date. Ingres writes to an unnamed friend, presenting a book that is “better for your library than for mine.” According to an early collector’s notation at the foot, the original recipient was the esteemed French architect Louis-Hippolyte Lebas (1782–1867).
