ALS signed “Joe Wheeler,” one page, lightly-lined both sides, 8 x 10, House of Representatives letterhead, February 4, 1883. Emotional letter to his wife. In part: “I know you are in deep distress and I wish I was with you. I have felt badly all day but I don’t know whether it is a touch of malaria or whether it is caused by fearing that you feel very badly.…I wish I was with you so much that I think how foolish I am to let myself get away from you at all.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, one through a single letter of signature.
