Partly printed DS, signed “Th: Jefferson” as president and “James Madison” as secretary of state, one page, 20.25 x 16.25, February 4, 1806. A four-language ship’s papers issued to Seth Wadsworth, “master or commander of the Schooner called the Mary ... lying at present in the port of New York bound for St. Thomas and laden with Beef, Pork, Oil, Fish, Rice, Beans, Bread, Sugar, Vinegar, Candles, Greece [sic], Lard, Tobacco, Butter, Oil [sic], Flour, Soap, Tea, Dry Goods, & Lumber.” The document bears two embossed paper seals at left. Intersecting folds (lightly touching signatures; a few tiny holes and separations), mild wrinkling and soiling, and countersignature slightly touching Madison’s signature, otherwise fine, bright condition.
