A ship’s pass issued to the “Schooner Simon of New York, Job Stevens, Master and Commander, of the Burthen One hundred seventy five or thereabouts, mounted with four guns, navigated with sixteen men....” Signed at the conclusion by Madison and countersigned by Secretary of State Robert Smith. In good condition, with previous storage folds (one through a single letter of signature), paper loss along one vertical fold from apparent rodent damage, scattered toning and soiling, and a small piece of tape near seal.
