Description

Highly influential American poet (1926–1997) whose energetic, free-associative, often homoerotically charged verse made him one of the leading—and most controversial—figures of the Beat generation. His long poem Howl, published in 1956, remains a cornerstone of the 20th-century poetic canon. ALS on a 5.5 x 3.75 picture postcard featuring the facsimile signature of Arthur Rimbaud, April 2, 1983. Ginsberg writes to Hungarian writer and activist Istvan Eorsi. In part: “My own record … will be sent you, but are you in East or West Berlin?… Not sure what I’ll do net. Buddhist retreat? Rock ’n’ roll? Epic poesy, Far East? Ah, I’m just tired & the Central American war is like re-run of Indochina 1960s. I’m glad I can sing blues. Writing desultory, reading some Blake & old blues, & meditating mornings one and off….” A few small smudges, faint creases, and postal handling traces, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
