Fittingly born a Leo in New York City, he is best remembered today for his role as the Cowardly Lion (and the farm worker Zeke) in the classic 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, but known during his life for a career in burlesque, vaudeville, and Broadway. Vintage larger-than-life-sized matte-finish 11 x 14 close-up photo of a surprised-looking Lahr, signed and inscribed in ballpoint, “To ‘Ray’ [evidently the photographer, Ray Fisher] with kind regards, Bert Lahr.” A touch of subtle rippling to top and bottom edges and just a hint of silvering to dark portions, otherwise very fine condition.
