Description

Mercury 7 + New Nine = NASA’s Sweet Sixteen

Vintage color 10 x 8 NASA photo of the Group One and Two astronauts posing together in their civilian clothes, signed in black felt tip by ten: Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, Tom Stafford, Frank Borman, Charles Conrad, John Young, James McDivitt, Alan Shepard, Wally Schirra, and Gordon Cooper. The original Mercury Seven, selected in April 1959 and sometimes referred to as Astronaut Group One, together made up the only astronaut group that flew on all NASA manned spacecraft of the twentieth century. The New Nine, aka Astronaut Group Two, made up the second group of astronauts selected by NASA, in September 1962. With the advent of the Gemini and Apollo programs, the Group Two astronauts were called upon to augment the original Mercury Seven, and the achievements of Group Two—including the manned moon missions—eclipsed those of any group before or since. A fabulous piece with plenty of room to add John Glenn and Scott Carpenter! In very fine condition. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA
