Description

Vintage 15.5 x 21 three-quarter length portrait photo by D’Alessandri of Rome, of Emanuele posing in his uniform with his saber (He was also mockingly nicknamed Sciaboletta, or “little saber,” allegedly because his short stature required his uniform to be equipped with a saber shorter than the ordinary sword), signed and inscribed in fountain pen in Italian, on the mount, to George von Lengerke Meyer and dated 1902. Meyer was the ambassador to Italy from 1900-1905 and would later serve as Postmaster General in the cabinet of Theodore Roosevelt. In very good condition, with diagonal line of toning through Emanuele’s body, scattered foxing to mount and bold signature an inscription. R&R COA.
