This Old President’s House: “You are mistaken that I intend to build. . . . I have purchased James Hollister’s house.”

ALS, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, April 6, 1858. Writing from Albany, the ex-President comments upon his change of address. In full: I have yours of the 2d but you are mistaken in supposing that I intend to build. I have purchased James Hollister’s house, which I think has been erected since you left Buffalo.” The house in question was Fillmore’s last residence, where he lived until his death in 1874. In fine condition, with light even toning and mailing folds (one touching first name of signature). R&R COA.
