Nicknamed "The Georgia Peach", he was an American baseball player considered to be the greatest player of the "Deadball Era" (1900-1920), and perhaps of all time. When he retired he was the holder of 90 major league records and he was among the first players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.
