Hirohito signs a letter of state for an envoy, urging the host country, “ to believe his words as being entirely representative of Japan.”

Emperor of Japan, he acceded in 1926 and his reign was marked by rapid militarization and aggressive wars against China and the United States. WWII ending with the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima and in 1946, he renounced his divinity in favor of a democratic constitutional monarchy. DS in Japanese, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 9.75 x 13.5, May 10, 1957. Dimplomatic letter of state reads, in part, “The government of Japan appoints Hiroshi Izawa as an envoy extraordinary and send him to you expecting to keep friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Bolivia. Hiroshi Izawa is very honest, faithful to his duty and of excellent caliber. I’m sure he will accomplish his mission successfully without betraying your trust. I would like you to treat and believe his words as being entirely representative of Japan.” Signed on the second page by Hirohito and countersigned by his Prime Minister. In fine condition, with three scarlet stamps showing though from second age and a couple light bends. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
