Confederate army officer; he graduated from West Point near the bottom of his class and served in California and Texas. Resigning to join the Confederate service, he commanded a brigade at 2nd Bull Run and Antietam and a division at Gettysburg, where he was seriously wounded. Ink signature, “John B. Hood,” on a light blue 4.25 x 1 slip, adding his rank and unit underneath. In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light toning and a closely trimmed top edge. R&R COA.
