Born Arthur Wellesley, Wellington was responsible for Napoleon’s crushing defeat at Waterloo. Free frank, 4 x 2.5, dated and addressed in his hand, “ [Sender?] Twenty July 1836, A.M. Gerhard [?], Post Office, Hastings” and signed “Free, Wellington.” The red wax seal is still intact on the reverse. In fine condition, with expected age toning, postal stamp and very light edge wear.
