The Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert

The collection of Paul K. Carr, former Universal Autograph Collector Club (UACC) President and Lifetime Achievement Award winner, represents seven decades of searching for the finest in autographs.

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1934, Carr was a curious child with a love for American history.  When his widowed mother gifted him two autographs (a William Taft and a Theodore Roosevelt) for his college graduation, it became the source of a lifelong passion.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Carr married Patricia Anne Toner and began his career as a public school junior high history teacher. The teaching career focused Carr on collecting autographs of U.S. presidents and related presidential items. While building his autograph collection, Paul and Pat built a collection of five children that grew to include 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Over time, Paul developed a keen interest in the authenticity of autographs and became recognized by the collector community as an expert. Other collectors often turned to Carr in the battle against their common enemies, the autopen and presidential secretaries. While many presidential autograph collectors of the era focused on Kennedy and Nixon, Carr built a deep knowledge of Dwight D. Eisenhower's signature. His 1997 book The Eisenhower files: An In-Depth Philographic Study is a classic in the field of autograph authentication.

Over time, Carr widened the scope of his collecting, moving beyond presidential autographs.  Known for constantly "trading up", the autographs here represent his finest and final collection. Paul K. Carr passed away on February 24, 2023.  These are the autographs he considered the finest signatures - the ones that made his collecting friends envious.
