Description

Handwritten manuscript in French entitled (translated) “Sad memories of the Lusitania in May 1915,” three total pages, 5 x 6.75, January 23, 1917. Untranslated remembrance of the fate of the RMS Lusitania, which was sunk on May 7, 1915, by the German submarine U-20, 11 miles off the coast of Ireland, killing 1,197 passengers, crew, and stowaways. The sinking occurred about two years before the United States declared war on Germany but significantly increased American domestic public support for entering the war. In fine condition, with old mounting strips to the edges.
