Description

King of England and Ireland (1566–1625) under whom the 'Golden Age' of Elizabethan literature and drama continued, and who famously sponsored the translation of the Bible into English; as King James VI, he ruled Scotland from 1567 until his death. Manuscript DS, signed “James R,” one page, 6.25 x 6, dated 1584. Document in relation to William Murray of Tullibardine, the Comptroller of Scotland, in part: "S[i]r William Murray of Tullibaird knycht our co[n]troller for the tym not w[i]thstanding ony rycht tytill or gift maid or to be maid to ony persone or personis of the landis & mainisi foirsaidis be this present givis full power to our said servitur to Intro (met) lyft & uptaik all & th[a]t of all termis & deuteis of the(e) foirsaidis & th[a]t of all termis bygaine & to cum & to call pur(sue) distreinye thairfor give ned beis, as he sall think expe(dient)." Backed by a slightly larger sheet and in good to very good condition, with substantial paper loss, remarkably not adversely affecting the signature.
