Description

Magnificent collection of eight glossy 7 x 5 candid photos of Steve Jobs originally taken by photographer Bill Kelley in May 1977 at Apple Computer’s first official corporate address: 20863 Stevens Creek Blvd., (Building 3, Suite C) in Cupertino, California. The 22-year-old Apple founder is pictured with long hair, a mustache, and a beard, as he talks on the phone from his desk, sits in a meeting with three other men (an Apple II computer is seen in three images), and holds a computer circuit board. The photographer adds his copyright signature to the lower right of each photo, “Bill Kelley, 1985.” The lot includes two other photos that appear to show first Apple CEO Mike Scott and Bill Fernandez, a close friend of Jobs and Apple employee No. 4. In overall fine condition.

Bill Kelley on photographing Steve Jobs: 'Not many people wanted to deal with him at the time. But I found his passion for democratizing technology intriguing. He was [22] and all sharp edges. Highly emotional. But scary-smart. He needed the vulcanizing process of being fired from his own company; contemplating his weaknesses and overcoming his flaws. Few can come back from the kind of devastating experience he had in '85, let alone with the forcefulness and confidence that Steve had. 'The greatest second act in American business' was the headline at the time. And it was.'

From the Clement Mok Collection.
