Five TLSs, two signed "Stephen Sondheim" and three signed "Steve," each one page, 5.75 x 7.75, personal letterhead, dated from September 1967 to June 1974. Sondheim writes to Dan Langan and OCEE Books and Records, purchasing records, accepting advice, and exchanging pleasantries. Excerpts from the letters:
September 14, 1967: "Thank you for the Arkin, etc. I have a tape that I'm going to make into a record for you of a score you will be delighted to have—I don't think I'll tell you what it is yet. As for the Lehman Engel, I'd love to have one."
December 4, 1970: "Thanks for the casting suggestion. The favor concerned tracking down 'Three Wishes For Jamie.' But I did it myself (although if you ever pick up an extra copy, I know somebody who would like to have it."
July 3, 1973: "I am interesting in buying the album 'Hark,' if it is released through OCEE Records."
May 28, 1974: "Enclosed please find a check for $11.50, for which kindly send me the Charles deForest record and 'Hard Job Being God.' Also, as a collector of trivia, would you send me the answers to your first musical quiz? I only got 35 points (and that only through consultation with Jonathan Tunick)."
June 13, 1974: "Dear Dan—I had no idea you were behind OCEE. Congratulations. Keep the lists coming. AS for writing something for you, Im rotten at prose. Maybe an interview of some sort."
In overall fine condition. Accompanied by four original mailing envelopes.
