Description

Colonial Virginia engraved bank note for "Five Pounds," 6.75 x 4.75, issued as "No. 1/53," and reading: "Five Pounds Current Money of Virginia, according to Act of Assembly Passed…March Anno Com. 1773." Signed on the front in ink by Peyton Randolph and John Blair, and countersigned on the reverse by Robert Carter Nicholas, Sr., as treasurer. In very good condition, with soiling, staining, and some bleeding to Randolph's signature. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.

Peyton Randolph (1721–1775) was a Virginia politician, planter, and the first president of the Continental Congress. John Blair, Jr. (1732–1800) was a Founding Father, jurist, and signer of the United States Constitution whose greatest contribution came as a judge on the Virginia court of appeals and on the U.S. Supreme Court, where he influenced the interpretation of the Constitution in a number of important decisions. Robert Carter Nicholas (1728–1780) served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and its successor, the Virginia House of Delegates, and became the last treasurer of the Colony of Virginia.
