Kelly, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York, in part: "I want you to know how sorry I am that you won't be returning to Congress next year. You provided leadership that our country, and our Party, cannot afford to part with. You have always acted for the good of America; none can claim a better purpose or greater satisfaction than that." In very good to fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression, and envelope-related toning, affecting only appearance. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope.
A Democrat from Brooklyn, Edna F. Kelly served in the House of Representatives for twenty years, making her mark in a variety of areas. As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, she supported the creation of NATO and helped to create the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. She can also be credited with promoting the first equal pay for equal work bill, which she introduced in 1951. It was a landmark effort, which established a new era in the fight for women's equality. She was in attendance when President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law on June 10, 1963.
