Description

"I have produced an original oil painting featuring President Anwar Sadat, Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and me at the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty on the White House lawn"

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, February 10, 2004. Letter to Paul Carr, president of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club, in part: "Because of your visibility among art collectors, I want you to know about a special opportunity in conjunction with an upcoming Carter Center event. Each year, Rosalynn and I host about 250 of our good friends and supporters at a four-day ski weekend. A highlight of the event is a live auction on Saturday night that traditionally has brought more than $1 million for the benefit of The Carter Center.

In past years, I have built a piece of furniture in my Plains woodshop for auction. This year, I have produced an original oil painting featuring President Anwar Sadat, Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and me at the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty on the White House lawn. Details on this historic painting, titled 'Peace,' are enclosed.

We hope that you or others you know may have interest in acquiring 'Peace,' perhaps for a personal collection or as a gift for display at another organization. The enclosure contains bidding information including the option of appointing a Carter Center staff member as a personal representative at the live auction.

The Carter Center is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that has worked since its founding in 1982 to improve the lives of people in more than 65 countries by waging peace, fighting disease, and building hope. We work directly with those threatened by war, disease, famine, and poverty to solve problems, renew opportunity, and create better futures." In very fine condition. Accompanied by an advertisement for the auction of the painting, held on February 28, 2004.

From the Collection of Paul K. Carr, former UACC President and Noted Expert.
