I also deeply appreciate the cover letter from Senator Benjamin Tillman…The materials which you have generously forwarded are being transmitted to the Gerald R. Ford Library on the campus of the University of Michigan, where they can be properly preserved for historical purposes. This material will be a fine addition to records relating to my pardon of the Battalion of the 25th United States Infantry, Colored"; and a TLS signed "G. R. Ford," one page, 6.25 x 8.25, personal letterhead, September 6, 1989, in part: "The copies of the two letters from President Truman to U.S. Senator Hawes are most amusing. President Truman was a favorite President of the Fords." In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, both with facsimile free franks.
