Handsome matte-finish 9.75 x 13.75 portrait photo of Taft by the Harris & Ewing studio of Washington, D.C., signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen to a White House aide, “For Lieutenant Charles K. Rockwell, U.S.A., with warm regards and high appreciation of his courtesy and attention during my term at the White House. Wm. H. Taft, The White House, July 25, 1913.” In fine condition. Lieut. Colonel Charles K. Rockwell served as a White House aide during the Taft, Roosevelt, and Wilson administrations.
This photograph was signed nearly five months after Taft had departed the White House and some four months into his new role as Kent Professor of Law and Legal History at Yale Law School. A month later in August 1913, Taft was elected to a one-year term as president of the American Bar Association.
