Official Parker 'bill signer' pen from the Nixon administration, measuring 5.25˝ long, and featuring a navy-blue plastic barrel, marked "The White House," with Nixon's silver facsimile signature below, complete with its silver-tone cap. Includes its original white box, featuring Nixon's facsimile signature on the lid and a gilt-stamped presidential seal. The box is annotated on the bottom in ballpoint, attributing it to the collection of Attorney General Elliot Lee Richardson: "Given to ELR on May 25, 1973, by the President upon ELR's swearing-in as Attorney General, White House." In fine condition, with some soiling to the box.
Elliot Richardson was the U.S. Attorney General during the Watergate scandal and played a key role in the 'Saturday Night Massacre' on October 20, 1973. When President Richard Nixon ordered him to fire special prosecutor Archibald Cox, who was investigating the Watergate break-in, Richardson refused to comply and resigned instead. This dramatic episode led to further public distrust of Nixon’s administration.
