Description

Original United Press International (UPR) teletype roll documenting the return launch of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Eagle from the surface of the moon on July 21, 1969, approximately extending to 7.5-feet (90 inches) in length, which begins: “086UPR – (Space Center) – Ground Control now has acquisition with Columbia as the Command Module now approaches the landing site where it will be overhead when the lander blasts off.” Other notable highlights include:

“088UPR – The direct line is up between Houston Space Flight and the broadcast desk in Chicago…the rocket blast will last seven minutes 14 seconds. The LEM will develop a speed of four thousand 132 miles per hour. It should achieve orbit about 168 miles downrange from the Sea of Tranquility landing site. Communications between Ground, and Eagle and Columbia are good.”

“089UPR – The Lander will ascend to about 50 feet in a vertical rise, then pitch to start moving downrange. Ground Control running cockpit checks with Armstrong. Houston tells Eagle ‘Looking good.’ Eagle blasts off Moon. Control said ‘Beautiful.’ Aldrin: ‘Very smooth.’”

“090UPR – (Space Center) – Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin blasted off from the moon in Eagle today after spending almost a day on the lunar surface. They now maneuver into rendezvous and docking with the Columbia Command Module for the journey back to Earth.” Rolled and in fine condition, with some light stains and a few small holes.
