Japanese naval officer who commanded the 11th Flotilla (1900-1986) and who was Senior Officer on board the destroyer Amagiri on the night of the collision with John F. Kennedy's PT-109. Postal cover with three postage stamps honoring President John F. Kennedy, and two 1967 cancellation stamps dated to his birthday and death, signed in black ink, "Capt. Katsumori Yamashiro, Comdr.," who adds a detailed map from “Aug. 2, 1843,” which charts the incident within the waterways of the Solomon Islands, noting “Kolombangara Island,” “Gozo,” the “Vella Gulf,” and the area of impact between Kennedy’s PT-109 and the Japanese destroyer Amagiri, with Yamashiro adding, “I, as commander of the Amagiri gave orders to avoid collision with PT109.” In fine condition.
